Over the Easter holidays students from the Police Clubs at Outwood Academy Portland and Valley, attended Worksop Fire Station where PC Case and Firefighters’ Hibbert and Langton put on a Fire & Rescue Bootcamp. The students were kitted out if full firefighting uniform and given an intensive course on what it’s like to be a firefighter. They had instruction on how the service, deal with road traffic collisions, specialist water and animal rescues, physical fitness, team building, home fire safety, breathing apparatus use and hose and firefighting techniques.
For many of the students it wasn't their first visit to a fire station, as most visited with their primary schools. However this time they got to actually have a go with the equipment the regular firefighters use.
Overall the students had a fantastic time and asked if we could run even more boot camps, to which Firefighter Hibbert said he can’t see any problem in arranging something in the future. PC Case said “It was an absolute pleasure to see the students from both academies mixing well and getting on as a team, or as they were for the boot camp, Blue and Red Watch”.
