On Friday 30th March 2018 56 students and 8 staff set off on a ski trip to Ziller Valley in Austria.
All of the students have learnt a new life skill and have come back competent skiers. Some students are now able to ski on red slopes (advanced slopes). As a result, they have grown in confidence, resilience and tolerance, and also raised their aspirations.
Here are some quotes from students:
“I’d never have had the opportunity to ski if I didn’t come on this trip” Josh I. Year 10
“I went to another country and learned how to ski in 5 days – I achieved something I didn’t think I could.” Brooke H. Year 8
“People have become dependent on technology and it has been great to be in an amazing place with friends learning skills for your future life.” Charlie S. Year 9
“It taught me how to be resilient and not give up when times are tough, even though it was difficult at the start.” Reuben A. Year 8
“Going skiing has been a life changing experience that has helped my confidence, also going to another country has helped me understand different cultures.” Isabelle M. Year 9
The students have been a credit to themselves, their parents and Outwood Academy Portland. The staff who attended feel privileged to have been part of this life-changing experience for our students.
Thank you to all the students and parents who made this possible.
We are looking forward to running the trip again in 2019.
