On Monday 25th June 2018 Retford@Worksop Rotary Club held their 19th Annual Children of Courage Awards at the Masonic Hall, Queen Street, Worksop. This is a really special occasion, which celebrates the achievements of all young people across Bassetlaw, who often overcome adverse personal difficulties on a daily basis. It can be a very moving and emotional day as students are nominated for many reasons. At times it may be for a personal reason, some students are young carers, helping to care for parents and look after siblings, other students are nominated for acts of bravery, or they may have an ongoing medical condition, but all these students show outstanding courage and commitment.
Both Imogen C in Year 7 and Jack McN in Year 8 at Outwood Academy Portland were chosen to receive an award. It was a fantastic way of recognising how both students continually work hard each day, always giving 100% commitment. Both Mr Howard, Mrs Bradley, and their parents felt extremely proud of these 2 students and their achievements.
Jack is a student who is always positive, never gives up although at time he has had to overcome personal difficulties, he has a constant smile on his face. Jack is a credit to the academy, his enthusiasm and sense of humour is second to none. It was a pleasure to see Jack receive his award. You are certainly an outstanding student.
Imogen is such a courageous young woman. Not only has Imogen worked really hard to catch up on work missed, her lovely personality, and wonderful smile, has made her into an outstanding student that thrives to achieve the best for herself. She is well-likes by staff and peers, and continues to cheer everyone up with her positive attitude!
