Outwood Academy Portland in collaboration with Outwood Academy Valley and Post-16 centre is licenced to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award. We offer the bronze and silver levels with the option to do gold at Post-16.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to be the very best they can be. Each level has 4 sections to complete to gain the full award. These are volunteering, skills, physical and expedition.
Students have to undertake either volunteering, skills or physical for 24 sessions (i.e 1 hour per week) and two of these sections for 12 sessions (i.e. 1 hour per week). At bronze level the expedition takes place over 2 weekends and at silver over 2 three day periods. This time frame includes practice expeditions to confirm skills and competence.
All sections have to be assessed by an independent assessor who has knowledge of the activity being undertaken and can verify the students participation in the activity.
