Heather Holmes began her career as a teacher of English in 2009. She was appointed as Head of English at Scalby School, Scarborough, in 2010, and has worked for Outwood Grange Academies Trust as a Director of English since 2013. In 2018 she was appointed as Regional Director of English for the South Region. She works as part of a group of directors who are deployed to schools across the family to support department leaders and their teams in English, building capacity and empowering teachers to develop the knowledge and approaches required to ensure that students experience both engagement with the subject and the ability to succeed at GCSE and indeed in the wider world. Heather believes strongly in the power of reading to transform children’s life chances and is currently studying for a doctorate in Education.
